The Sea Turtle Farm is located in Mahamodara, just 5–10 minutes from Galle Fort, along the Colombo–Matara coastal road.

About the Sea Turtle Farm in Mahamodara
The hatchery was established to protect endangered sea turtle species that nest along Sri Lanka’s southern beaches. Due to natural predators and human activities, many turtle eggs do not survive in the wild.
The hatchery works by:
Collecting vulnerable eggs
Safely incubating them
Releasing baby turtles into the ocean
Caring for injured or disabled turtles
It is both an educational and emotional experience, especially when you see baby turtles preparing for their journey into the sea.

Kindly note: The hatchery accepts cash only.
Ticket contributions directly support turtle conservation and rehabilitation programs.
Best Time to Visit
Open daily: Usually from morning until evening
Best time: Late afternoon (combine with sunset at Galle beach)

Ananda Driver würde sehr empfehlen Ananda machte die erste Hälfte unserer Reise unglaublich glatt und stressfrei. Er war bereit und wartete auf uns am Flughafen und fuhr uns dann von Colombo nach Sigiriya und weiter nach Kandy, wo wir unseren Zug nach Ella erwischten... Er brachte uns nicht nur zu jedem Ort, den wir sehen wollten, sondern machte auch den gesamten Prozess so einfach, von der Suche nach Ein- und Ausgängen bis hin zur Unterstützung bei der Frage, wo und wie wir unsere Tickets bekommen. Wir sind sehr dankbar für seine Hilfe und würden Ananda jedem, der einen zuverlässigen, freundlichen und sachkundigen Fahrer in Sri Lanka sucht, wärmstens empfehlen!

Amazing tour experience with Sri Lanka Private driver! We had a great tour experience with Sri Lanka Private driver services. Special thanks to our friend Murshid! We had a great time across Sri Lanka. Murshid helped us in many ways that made this experience enjoyable. Our trip covered Colombo, Dambula, Kandy, Yala, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Galle and Bentota. Every place we visited was worth the drive and we enjoyed every interaction with Murshid(He takes great pictures by the way🤯). It was also helpful having him interact with the local community for us, this helped us get the best prices possible and to know more about the community. Overall, from the start of the journey all the way till the drop off at the airport; we can never forget this tour experience in Sri Lanka. Kudos to Murshid and his team for organising the vehicle (in top notch condition) and providing the best possible drive across the country. No compromises in quality as this journey wouldn’t have been more enjoyable without Murshid.💯
